Former Bafana mentor Bafana leaves country for Egypt, according to Brazilian chief
Mamelodi Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe has broken his silence on Pitso Mosimane’s surprising departure from the club.
In a statement released Wednesday, Motsepe gave Mosimane his blessings while confirming that he was aware of conversations between the 56-year-old clubs and North Africa that showed interest in him.
According to Motsepe, Mosimane will head to Egypt to train a “top Egyptian club” understood as Al Ahly.
He expressed his support for the Kagiso-born mentor, saying that soccer players and coaches should always look for new opportunities that come with higher pay.
“Pitso Mosimane and his agent Moira Tlhagale, who is also his wife, came to inform me about the discussions between Pitso Mosimane and a major Egyptian club. Sundowns has been aware of the ongoing discussions between Pitso Mosimane and the Egyptian club and with others. Northern clubs African clubs, “Motsepe said in the statement.
“I have expressed on several occasions over the last few years my support for Pitso Mosimane leaving Sundowns to train in North Africa or Europe or Bafana Bafana. Soccer players and coaches sometimes have an uncertain and inconsistent future and must look for new ones. opportunities where they can grow and receive higher remuneration, ”he said.
Motsepe said that while Mosimane leaves the club, he will always be a part of the Sundowns family due to the amount of success he enjoyed during his eight-year stay at Chloorkop.
“I have received a warm and emotional note from Pitso and am very proud of his accomplishments at Mamelodi Sundowns. Pitso has been the most successful coach in Sundowns history and will always be a member of the Mamelodi Sundowns family. I wish him, Moira and his family, all the best and I hope to see you training soon in Europe.
In addition, the 58-year-old businessman said that the club will make announcements about the new head coach, as well as other changes it intends to introduce.
However, he hinted that Mosimane’s successor could be a local coach, saying that Sundowns have developed very good local coaches in the past and also expressed confidence in the current technical team.
Reports suggest Mosimane will take Rhulani Mokwena with him, and if that’s true, then Manqoba Mngqithi could get the job, especially after Motsepe confirmed that José Ramón Alexanko will remain the club’s technical director.
“Mamelodi Sundowns will make announcements in due time about the new head coach and other changes we are making. Over the years Sundowns has developed and trained very good local coaches and has a strong technical team.
“José Ramón Alexanko will continue in his current role as Technical Director and will continue the good work he is doing at the Academy. Sundowns will focus on preparing for next season and is ready to compete in South Africa, Africa and globally,” Motsepe confirmed.
