Drivers were warned to avoid the Griffiths Mxenge (Mangosuthu) highway in Umlazi, Durban, following protests in the area on Monday morning.

Police spokesman Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed that protective actions were taking place.

“There is currently a public outcry from the Emhlabeni informal settlement community. This community has blocked the Mangosuthu road with burning debris,” he says.

Mbele added that sections of the M4 were also partially blocked.
