JOHANNESBURG – With the country entering the new year under a strict ban on alcoholic beverages, the South African Association of Liquor Brand Owners said that domestic alcohol consumption remains the safest option for now.
Under the current level 3 lockdown restrictions, the sale of alcohol is completely prohibited, a decision that liquor dealers have been especially critical of.
The association said it has observed that many South Africans have adhered to the regulations, which has led to a reduction in trauma cases in hospitals.
Salba President Sibani Mngadi said that while consumers would have stocked up on alcohol before the new year, there have been no concerns about enforcement of the ban.
“Like Salba, we welcome the overall positive behavior among South Africans this holiday season,” said the association’s president, Sibani Mngadi.
