The Mamelodi Sundowns manager is confident that his team will not be denied the hat-trick after their triumph in the Nedbank Cup final
Pitso Mosimane appears unfazed by suggestions that Mamelodi Sundowns may be denied the Nedbank Cup they won on Saturday night due to concerns about Tebogo Langerman’s eligibility for the match.
Gaston Sirino scored the only goal of the game when Sundowns beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 on Saturday to clinch the silverware and complete a national treble.
However, since the match, Celtic has launched a formal complaint according to IOL, after Langerman was named on the team roster for the match even though he was allegedly suspended for the contest.
Nonetheless, Mosimane has laughed at suggestions that Downs will be stripped of the title because of the infringement.
“I am not aware of that,” Mosimane told reporters at an online post-match press conference. “I’m not aware of that. How are you asking me, as a coach? I’ll ask the club.
“You have to win football on the field,” he added. “If you have to win off the court because there is something like this or that … well, if you win, you win. You know how you won. “
The 34-year-old winger posted a fourth reserve in the Sundowns final league game of the season, his 3-0 win over Black Leopards last weekend, which should have ruled him out for Saturday’s final.
However, despite being officially banned from the game, the wing player was included on the Sundowns squad roster, and on their team card, for Saturday’s showdown.
At one point in the contest, Mosimane, apparently unaware of Langerman’s ineligibility, tried to introduce the full-back from the bench, before the fourth official intervened and appeared to prevent the Brazilian left-back from entering the field of play.
It remains to be seen to what extent Celtic will pursue further disciplinary issues against the Sundowns and their cup success, although Mosimane appears unflappable.
“Bloemfontein Celtic in 2012 won the Telkom [Knockout] Cup [vs Sundowns] with a ball that never crossed the line, ”continued Mosimane. Who’s talking about it now?
“I am not a manager at the club, I don’t do that,” he added. “I focus on coaching the team and if I have reports on certain issues, of course I can’t be a coach who doesn’t. I look at all those things, but I don’t know about it. I’m not aware at the moment.
“The management will have to tell us all this, but you must win on the field,” concluded Jingles. “Imagine you’re going to lift the trophy … ‘Oh by the way, there was this’ and where’s the trophy? And then you celebrate … I really mean.”
