Former Bafana coach Bafana is off to a good start in his tenure at Africa’s most successful club

Pitso Mosimane led Al Ahly to a routine 3-0 win over ENPPI SC in the Egyptian Premier League match at Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday night.

Marwan Mohsen scored a double in the first half before attacking partner Junior Ajayi sealed the Red Devils victory with a late goal.

Mosimane had planned a 1-0 league win over Al Mokawloon in his first game in charge of the team on Sunday night.

Amr Al Sulaya’s lone goal kicked off Mosimane with a win at the Red Devils, after joining the club after resigning as head coach of the Mamelodi Sundowns last week.

The South African tactician made several changes to the team facing Al Mokawloon when club captain and goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy was eliminated.

While center forwards Junior Ajayi and Marwan Mohsen returned to the starting lineup, Mosimane opted for two forwards back and forth.

The play paid off when Al Ahly broke the deadlock just three minutes after the game, when Mohsen hit the back of the net to give the visitors the lead.

It was soon 2-0 for the Cairo giants as the Egyptian international completed his double in the 17th minute when he beat ENPPI goalkeeper Mahmoud Gad for the second time.

Ajayi sealed Al Ahly’s 3-0 win over ENPPI in the 80th minute, as the Red Devils are now undefeated in their last 12 competitive matches and are also enjoying a five-game winning streak.

Mosimane expects Mohsen and Ajayi to be in shape heading into their Caf Champions League semi-final matches against Wydad Casablanca later this month.

The Red Devils will travel to Wydad on October 17, before hosting the Moroccan giants six days later in a draw between two North African teams.

The man nicknamed Jingles will be eager to guide Al Ahly to their thirteenth Champions League final with the club having lifted a record eight titles.

Jingles won the competition in 2016 when he led Mamelodi Sundowns to a 3-1 aggregate victory over Al Ahly’s Egyptian rival Zamalek in the final.

Al Ahly, who have already won the 2019/20 Egyptian Premier League title, will face Pyramids in their penultimate match of the competition on Sunday.
