“Durban Transport bus drivers drove buses and blocked the road. They included the Queen Nandi Drive area and northern areas,” he said.

Sewpersad said officers managed to move some of the buses.
“Quick action by the Durban metro police officers removed these buses from the road with an armored vehicle. They towed the buses so that the cars could pass. Some of the buses were moved by the metro policemen who took them to a side of the road.. “

He said that although there was still some congestion, “we opened the road fast enough.”
Sewpersad said the buses were left on the edge of the road and had to be specially moved. He said that while 450 buses were pulled from the bus station, it was unclear if all had been used to block roads.
“We leave the buses on the side of the road. We are not going to move them until it is absolutely calm to move the buses. If we move the buses, about 450 were removed from the station … not all of them.” But if we move them now, it will cause more congestion. “
He said the buses would move in terms of police procedures.
“We will put them back in the warehouse because this must be investigated. This problem is long-standing between bus drivers and the municipality.”
News24 has attempted to contact the municipality for further comment.
