  • Momentum has confirmed that they will no longer sponsor Cricket South Africa when their agreement ends in April 2021.
  • However, they will continue to sponsor the feminine side of Proteas.
  • Momentum’s decision to withdraw its sponsorship is another blow to the ailing national cricket body.

With your affairs already in a state of confusion, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has been hit with the news that Impulse You will no longer act as a sponsor of the organization when your current agreement ends in April 2021.

The company confirmed, however, that the sponsorship of the Protea women will continue until 2023.

“Our eight-year association as a sponsor of cricket in South Africa has been very rewarding for our brand. We have had some really great entries, considering we were involved in various platforms such as development cricket, school cricket, club cricket, national and international cricket. Our support and contribution to cricket is a positive story that we are proud of, ”said Carel Bosman, Director of Sponsorship for Momentum.

Bosman, however, said the organization “is not satisfied with the current situation of CSA with regard to governance and other reputational issues.”

Following the suspension of then-CEO Thabang Moroe in December, CSA has transitioned from crisis to crisis.

Momentum confirmed that they will continue to pressure CSA to overcome its current crisis and hold the organization accountable as long as their sponsorship remains in place for the next seven and a half months.

“We will continue our dialogue with CSA to hold them accountable for doing the right thing. We all want to see a governing body that is managed professionally and ethically, and that considers all stakeholders in the game,” Bosman said.

Momentum’s current sponsorship covers one-day cricket, including the Proteas One-day Internationals and one-day national cup, as well as the national club championship and the U13, U15 and U17 school age groups.

Regarding the continued sponsorship of the Women’s Proteas, Bosman said Momentum was proud of the role they have played in advancing women’s cricket.

“We are extraordinarily proud of our role in supporting the advancement of the women’s team and remain committed to that sponsorship agreement. Our continued support for Momentum Proteas is in line with our brand narrative and we will continue to shine a light on their talent, build their business value and enable them on their journey to success, ”concluded Bosman.
