JOHANNESBURG – Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said Monday that it was unclear if there were unions selling fake COVID-19 tests to foreign nationals returning to work, but at least 50 of those tests were found at the border checkpoint. from Beitbridge with Zimbabwe.

Thousands of workers from Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Mozambique are returning, but they must undergo COVID-19 tests that are no more than 72 hours old.

At the Ficksburg-Lesotho border, the gates were temporarily closed earlier, as many of the travelers wanting to pass through overwhelmed officials there.

Motsoaledi said security has been increased along the borders to prevent illegal crossings.

“Part of our plan was to identify areas where people tend to cross into South Africa illegally, whether it’s across the river, through the fence or any other part of the border line, those areas are known.”

The health of the port also ensures that all travelers are tested prior to entry and that the tests are authentic.
