CAPE TOWN: More than 20 liquor licenses have been suspended in the Western Cape during the coronavirus blockade.
The ban on the sale of alcohol remains in effect. But some are still taking risks.
Of the 51 investigations, at least 20 liquor licenses were suspended and two reports were forwarded to the liquor licensing court for consideration.
The Western Cape community security department said 12 more cases were being investigated.
Any liquor vendor operating during the closing may be fined or lose their license.
Department spokeswoman Cayla Murray said: “Those whose licenses have been suspended must report to the LLT within 21 days of the closing period to show why the request should not be finalized.”
Liquor licenses have been suspended in Vredendal, Clanwilliam, Malmesbury, Gugulethu, Philippi East, St Helena Bay, Bellville south and Lwandle.
