Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki He said that although there was much to improve after a laborious 4-2 winning on Monday was taking on the positives of his team’s two victories over São Tomé and Príncipe in two consecutive games Africa Cup of Nations 2022 (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ntseki’s team needed two closing goals from Themba Zwane and Percy Tau to secure victory at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and leave them on the verge of securing qualification for the continental tournament to be held in January 2022, in Cameroon.
“We had our backs to the wall at 2-2, but we kept the faith and the goals finally came,” Ntseki said after the match.
“We are fully aware of the mistakes we made in conceding goals. Next year, in March, we will work on it.”
Ntseki also highlighted that he had to endure a series of late changes to his starting selection after his 25-man team was hit by positive Covid-19 cases and injuries to key players.
“Eight of the players we selected had to be withdrawn,” added Ntseki.
“We had to settle, but I think we did very well under the circumstances. Congratulations to the guys, they have managed to score nine points and we have a chance to go play in the AFCON.”
Bafana is second in group G with 9 points after four games played with two more rounds of games to be played next year at the end of March.
Ntseki’s men need just one point from their two remaining games against Ghana and Sudan, which meet on Tuesday afternoon.
