Job Mokgoro is expected to remain Prime Minister of the Northwest, however his work will be “regulated” and he will be expected to do as he is told after his membership in the ANC was suspended.
Mokgoro, along with four members of the ANC from the provincial legislature (MPL) in the northwest, are accused of allegedly voting with the opposition for the election of the president of the presidents to be carried out by secret ballot.
The Northwest ANC Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) confirmed the suspension of Mokgoro’s memberships as well as MPLs that included the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts in the legislature Job Dliso, acting provincial secretary of the League ANC Women Bitsa Lenkopane, Aaron Motswana, and newly elected President Priscilla Williams.

The suspension of membership, especially that of Mokgoro, had created uncertainty about his position as prime minister. IPC coordinator Hlomani Chauke told reporters during a press conference in Mahikeng on Sunday that Mokgoro will remain in his post as prime minister, “but his activities [will be] regulated in accordance with the constitution of the ANC ”. He added that: “Then you will have to consult both the whip boss and the head of government business about [his] activities [and] we have communicated with the premier about what is expected of him ”.
“The work of the government will continue, but it is important that the work is supervised in certain areas where the party will have some interest,” said Chauke.
Meanwhile, Chauke has denied that the IPC movement has been influenced by factions. He said those who engage in factionalism and defiance “have been identified, they are a problem.”
He also explained that the activities of the affected MPLs will be equally regulated.
“They are not up to date with the game and therefore their activities will be regulated. Your participation will be regulated [and] we have communicated in letters what is expected of them, especially a colleague who will not serve in the legislature [because the person] it is totally suspended even outside the legislature. “
Explaining why the group’s membership was temporarily revoked, IPC spokesman Kenny Morolong said: “The ANC, through the IPC coordinator, addressed the ANC committee in the legislature on the election of presidents and the The ANC’s mandate was quite explicit in the sense that the ANC had instructed its deployment that it will support a motion initiated by Chief Whip for the elections to be held by an open vote. Now the comrades decided to support an opposition motion that opposed the motion initiated by the head of the majority party … they openly voted by show of hands in defiance of the ANC’s mandate that the election be held by open vote.
However, sources within the party said that the party’s decision was influenced by factionalism and that the IPC was not happy that its chosen candidate, Lenah Miga, did not emerge as president of the presidency.
Another party member, Williams, who has since been suspended, was nominated by the opposition. Miga is a former mayor of the local Mahikeng municipality and serves in the ANC IPC in the Northwest. It is understood that the ANC caucus was divided over Miga, and this was reflected in the results of the elections where the ANC members disputed each other.
“The fact is that the IPC preferred that the election be an open ballot so that it would be openly who voted for whom. The speaker decided by secret ballot and now the five are suspected of having voted for the candidate who was not the one chosen by the IPC, ”said the source.
Another source close to the party’s suspended members said some of them have vowed to fight tooth and nail against his suspension.
The government’s work will continue, but it is important that the work be supervised in certain areas where the party will take some interest.
IPC Coordinator, Hlomani Chauke
“They have already identified some flaws and hoped to obtain a favorable intervention from Luthuli House in their case. The four suspended members known for being outspoken are seen as obstacles to the IPC in some way, and on the part of Prime Minister Mokgoro, there has always been a mission to have him removed and replaced by someone who is a member of Parliament, “said the source said.
Meanwhile, Chauke has denied that the IPC movement has been influenced by factions. He said that those who engage in factionalism and defiance “have been identified, they are a problem.”
Meanwhile, Mokgoro told the City Press yesterday that he only learned of his suspension from television news. He said he had not yet been contacted by the ANC. Chauke told reporters that all five had been contacted regarding their suspensions on Friday, including Mokgoro, adding that he had even sent him a “WhatsApp message to confirm an email that was sent to him.”
