Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi has said the Hawks are investigating the source of the matrix final exam paper leaks.
In briefing the media on Sunday, Lesufif said: “We are closely following the investigations surrounding the circumstances of the leaked Math 2 article allegedly accessed by candidates from Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalnaga, the source of which is being investigated by the Hawks. . “
Lesufi said three documents were leaked and that the department director was instructed to strengthen measures to prevent further leaks in the future.
Lesufi added that his provincial department will await instructions from the education minister on whether or not the leaked documents will be rewritten.

“Our proctors have worked hard to ensure smooth administration of our exam and to ensure that integrity is not compromised,” said Lesufi.
The MEC said two students had been caught trying to use their cell phones in the exam room, three had tried to use lullaby notes and others tried to use their masks to hide their cheat notes.
Lesufi said that four enrolled in the province had tested positive for Covid-19, and only one, who was hospitalized, did not complete his tests.
Two enrollees have committed suicide since the tests began, Lesufi said.
“To their families, we pray that they can be comforted during this time of pain,” said the MEC.
The Matric exams are currently almost halfway through completion, Lesufi added.
Lesufi said that the qualification of the matrix documents will begin on January 4, 2021 and should conclude on January 22, 2021, “in 30 qualification places.”
“A total of 12,148 tagging personnel have been appointed,” added Lesufi.
Lesufi sent his condolences to the families of 30 teachers and seven administrative employees who succumbed to Covid-19 ailments.
On the Enoch Mpianzi affair, Lesufi said the principal of Parktown Boys High School appealed his dismissal and remains employed until that process is complete.

“Furthermore, we made the Mpianzi family an offer to resolve the matter and they rejected it and issued subpoenas demanding R20 million. The department is currently defending the matter, ”Lesufi said.
Lesufi said a total of 181,119 (81.48%) student applicants have been placed to date.
