Masandawana’s coach feels his men should have been more clinical with the opportunities they created against the Citizens
Mamelodi Sundowns Manqoba Mngqithi was not entirely satisfied with his team’s performance in the 2-0 DStv Premiership victory against Cape Town in Mother City on Wednesday night.
It was the Sundowns’ first league win in four games against City, all three points ensured by a goal by Lyle Lakay in the ninth minute and a goal by Keletso Makgalwa in the 83rd minute.
There were some aspects of the game that pleased Mngqithi, including his team’s clean sheet.
And he also spoke of his satisfaction with the way his players were able to nullify Cape Town threats like Fagrie Lakay, Craig Martin, Bradley Ralani and Thabo Nodada.
“We handle the situation very well in terms of managing transitions and breaking the press a bit,” he said. SuperSport TV After the match.
Mngqithi’s problems were that his side was not more clinical, that they did not kill the party before and that they were not always determined enough in their own transitions.
“I’m very unhappy, the game was a bit difficult,” he said. “We allowed them moments where they could have easily come back, when we really could have buried the game earlier.
“We are still not taking care of the ball as much as we should. Losing possession too cheap sometimes, we get excited after good moments of pressure, but when we regain possession we are not playing forward with the intention of causing damage to opponents, ”he added later.
However, the coach accepts that it is still early in the season and found some other positives from Wednesday’s game.
“It is a work in progress, once again we have to congratulate the work done by the coaches we work with [Rhulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela], “The passenger was shocked.
“The play that we scored with Lakay that they worked on and it’s really encouraging to see the things that we worked on in training are coming out.
“And working with people with so much experience, knowledge and detail. And also the medical team so that the players return on time ”.
