MMC for Group Corporate and Shared Services, Loyiso Masuku has returned to his duties in the city of Johannesburg as of Tuesday, October 27, 2020.

Masuku, her husband, Bandile Masuku, the spokesperson for the presidency Khusela Diko, and her husband, Chief Madzikane II Diko were at the center of the alleged corruption of the Covid-19 PPE in the Gauteng Health Department after a report IOL media reports revealed that Khusela’s husband received an R125m tender to provide PPE to the provincial health department.

This resulted in Masukus and Khusela Diko being placed on leave pending an investigation by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) into the matter.

News24 previously reported that all parties denied wrongdoing.

Bandile Masuku, the former MEC of Health, was recently fired from his duties by Gauteng Prime Minister David Makhura after a preliminary SIU report determined that he did not “perform his duties in accordance with the constitution and the PFMA” .

The report, dated October 1, found that Bandile Masuku was aware of the irregular procurement processes in his department, because senior officials had kept him informed of every step of the process, as early as April 2020, News24 reported.

Bandile Masuku, however, maintained his innocence and intended to challenge the findings that led to his “discharge” in court.

News24 also reported that the ANC’s Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) revealed that Khusela Diko and Bandile Masuku were addressing the ANC’s disciplinary committee.

Furthermore, the outcome of this disciplinary process would determine whether the couple would continue to be members of the PEC.
