A statement released on Friday said Lukhele had informed Prime Minister David Makhura of his resignation.
Makhura had placed HOD under precautionary suspension on Wednesday, following the recommendations of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), which investigates allegations of corruption and mismanagement against government officials and more than 60 companies related to the provision of personal protective equipment. during COVID-19. pandemic.
The Deputy Director General of Human Resources and Corporate Services of the Department of Health, Andile Gwabeni, received a suspension letter the next day, on October 1, 2020.
“Prime Minister Makhura has reiterated that all those involved in the corruption and misbehavior of COVID-19, whether they are public officials, public servants or businessmen, must be brought to justice,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the Right2Know (R2K) Campaign in Gauteng said on Friday that it wanted Lukhele arrested along with other top officials involved in dodgy takeover deals.
The organization organized a picket outside the department in Johannesburg to call for immediate action against COVID-19 corruption.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Makhura said he planned to recover all money fraudulently paid to corrupt EPP suppliers.
The prime minister also vowed to take action against corrupt officials involved in dubious takeover deals, including those who allowed it to happen.
