JOHANNESBURG – Three government ministers will brief the nation on Tuesday morning on the details of the new level three regulations.
Ministers Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Zweli Mkhize and Bheki Cele will lead a press conference on COVID-19 restrictions, regulations and enforcement at 10 am.
On Monday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa returned South Africa to Level 3 in a bid to reduce the rate of transmission of COVID-19 and reduce the burden on the country’s health services.
Ramaphosa, in his long-awaited speech, announced a series of measures including a ban on the sale of alcohol, new COVID hot spots, and the criminalization of not wearing a mask in public.

These as it warned that the country was in a dangerous pandemic after South Africa broke more than 1 million confirmed cases of the virus.
A tearful Ramaphosa confronted the nation once again predicting a grim milestone in this year’s festive season.
In his message, the President reiterated the danger and problems South Africa faces in imploring citizens to act responsibly in the fight against COVID-19.
He also took the opportunity to report back on the super spreader events and their contribution to growing cases.
“This is cause for great alarm and points to an extreme lack of vigilance during the holiday period. We have let our guard down and sadly now we are paying the price. ”
By setting strict measures, the president not only put the country back to level 3, but also declared that it would now be illegal not to wear a mask when in public.
“A person who does not wear a mask could be arrested and prosecuted. In case of conviction, they will be imposed a fine or a prison sentence for a period not exceeding six months, or a fine and a prison term “.
The Tier 3 regulations are expected to last until at least January 15, after which they will be reviewed.
