Mikel Arteta has tipped Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah to win an England call-up.
Nketiah became part of Arsenal’s first team created in January after his loan from Leeds United was interrupted.
He was expected to leave Emirates for another loan period, but impressed Arteta in training and the Spaniard decided to keep him as part of his first team.
The Englishman has returned the faith with good performances. Scoring in back-to-back games against West Ham and Leicester City ahead of Arsenal’s league game against Liverpool next week.
Speaking before the game, the Spanish manager said that the forward, who has scored 12 goals in 10 England U21 games, will have a chance to play for England’s senior team if he continues to impress as he is doing right now.
He is confident that will happen because of how Gareth Southgate’s coaching staff has trusted young men with opportunities.
Arteta said via Mail Online: ‘Obviously, if he continues to act the way he has been with us in recent months, he will have a very good chance.
“I think, culturally, England and the current manager are really brave with young children.
“It depends on them, they have to be consistent and keep doing what they are doing at the club level and then that opportunity will come naturally.”
