Mesut Ozil has hinted that he wants to return to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team after he retweeted a fan-made video of himself in action on his personal Twitter account.
The German midfielder has been completely frozen in recent months and hasn’t played for the Gunners since March.
There was strong speculation that he would leave the club in the summer, but in the end a move did not materialize and it now appears that he will stay until January at the earliest.
Many wonder if Ozil will be seen again in the Arsenal jersey, but judging from his activity on social media, the player himself would be more than happy to represent the team again.
On Monday afternoon he retweeted a video with some of his best moments playing with Arteta and posted the caption: “# startof2020 #throwback # M10 #YaGunnersYa”.
Some have interpreted the message as a call to Arteta to give him another chance to shine by his side, but it remains to be seen if the Asturian listens.
If he doesn’t make another appearance before his contract expires at the end of the season, it would be a very disappointing end to Ozil’s career at Arsenal and would tarnish many of the good memories he created at the beginning of his spell.
His former coach Arsene Wenger hopes something can be worked out, telling BBC Sport: “I feel like it’s a waste for him (Ozil).
“In the first place, because it is in the years in which a player of his talent can produce more. And it is a waste for the club also because he is a super talent, a creative talent that in the last third can create that killer pass.
“He’s been the assist turntable, so you have to find a way to get him involved again.
