Messi’s terrible personality is revealed when he expels Bartomeu

Messi can be a great player, but how he is as a person is something that will also be questioned. However, his latest acts have shown their negative aspects.

Josep Maria Bartomeu announced the resignation of him and his board of directors in a statement issued publicly on Tuesday night. The resignation of the former president is a surprise given that just a couple of days ago he said that he never thought about doing it and that he would stay until the club’s general elections in 2021.

However, after several defeats in the Champions League and statements against him mentioning how mismanaged the club was, along with a fiasco created by Lionel Messi about wanting to leave the club, the president’s position came under immediate scrutiny. A vote of no confidence was passed, but before it could materialize, the board resigned.

Everything said and done about the Bartomeu debacles was certainly not as bad as fans thought it was and one of the main reasons that put him in a tough spot was Messi’s dramatic and selfish demeanor. Needless to say, some of the club’s fans blindly follow their idol and perhaps would not understand the delicate matters of the truth.

During his six years at the club, Josep Maria Bartomeu oversaw the signing of one of the best players in the club’s history, Luis Suárez. The first Barça team won 13 trophies during their time, in which they invested in good coaches such as Luis Enrique, who won them the treble. In fact, Ernesto Valverde was not bad either and only the fans put him in bad shape.

The former Athletic Bilbao coach won two consecutive league titles and lost fewer than 10 games in both seasons combined in the Spanish top flight. He oversaw two embarrassing eliminations from the Champions League, but when the current club captain failed to deliver under pressure despite the comfort of the first leg, there is little one coach can do.

Messi began to open his mouth about Bartomeu when the president simply asked him to respect the contract in an extraordinary situation that crosses the world and the Argentine’s dialogues saw other important figures support him. Right now, it only seems that Messi should become the de facto president of the club, while Bartomeu’s actual successor would only be in theory.

If Messi had left the club this summer, the Blaugrana would have been in a better place in the long run because they would not have had to deal with a player who believes his status is greater than that of the club. Not to mention, fan endorsement has further elevated his value, although no player should be bigger than any club.

Bartomeu’s record of four La Liga and four Copa del Rey crowns, as well as a year in which Barça won five trophies, still stands, but sadly, he will never get credit for that. As for the future, the club needs a president who ensures that no individual feels fit to be proclaimed greater than the institution itself.
