Melissa Etheridge’s son, Beckett Cypher, has died.

The country singer shared Beckett, 21, with her former partner, filmmaker, Julie Cypher. The couple, who separated in 2000 after a 12-year relationship, also share their daughter Bailey Jean. Her two sons were conceived using artificial insemination with a sperm donation from fellow musician David Crosby, reports CNN.

Melissa also has twins, Miller and Johnnie, with former Tammy Lynn Michaels.

Melissa shared on Twitter Wednesday that Beckett’s death was related to his addiction to opioids.

“Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones due to opioid addiction,” he wrote.

“My son Beckett, who was only 21 years old, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed today. He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends.”

“My heart is broken.”
