Piers Morgan stepped down from his role as host of Good Morning Britain on Tuesday after a scathing attack on the Duchess of Sussex’s interview with American chat show host Oprah Winfrey.

LONDON – Meghan Markle filed a formal complaint with British broadcaster ITV, after a presenter criticized her allegations against the royal family and then resigned.
Piers Morgan left his role as host of Good morning Great Britain Tuesday after a scathing attack on the Duchess of Sussex’s interview with American chat show host Oprah Winfrey.
She and her husband, Prince Harry, accused the royal family of racism, while the former television actress said she had suicidal thoughts during her stay in Britain.

Former CNN host Morgan’s comments that he didn’t believe her sparked 41,000 complaints to Britain’s broadcasting regulator Ofcom.
Britain’s Domestic Press Association news agency said it understood Meghan formally complained to ITV before he resigned, confirming a report in the Daily telegraph Newspaper.
The complaint focused on how his comments may affect those trying to deal with their own mental health issues, he added.
It was not about his repeated criticism of her or the accusations of racism, which have rocked the monarchy.
Morgan, a former tabloid editor, has been a constant critic of Markle after she cut off contact with him after she met Harry and they married in 2018.
On Tuesday, Morgan left the set of Good morning Great Britain while colliding with a fellow host who was defending the Duchess.
In a tweet while the show aired on Wednesday, Morgan said he was adamant in his comments and said he would fight for freedom of expression.
“On Monday, I said that I did not believe Meghan Markle in her interview with Oprah. I have had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still do not,” he wrote.
Buckingham Palace responded to the explosive claims on Tuesday.

Queen Elizabeth II said that Meghan and Harry, who left royal life last year, and their son Archie would remain “very dear family members.”
But he also said the allegations would be dealt with “in private.”
When asked to respond to the Buckingham Palace statement, a spokesperson for Meghan and Harry said they would not comment further.
