Senekal, Free State – The media has been banned from following proceedings in Senekal Magistrates Court, where the two men charged with the murder of Paul Roux, farm manager Brendin Horner are presented.
The prosecutor opposed the media request to film the proceedings and broadcast them live, claiming that the case is at a sensitive stage.
The prosecutor has also asked that his name and face not be shown.
Sekwetje Isaiah Mahlamba, 32, and Sekola Piet Matlaletsa, 44, both residents of Takalatse in Fateng-Tse-Ntsho Township in Paul Roux, are facing charges for killing Horner earlier this month.
The two men’s lawyer objected to the proceedings being filmed or broadcast, but the prosecutor described the investigation as complex.
According to the prosecutor, certain information would be revealed during Friday’s hearing that should not be made public at this time.
The presiding magistrate noted that people in the public gallery could release this information anyway, but the prosecutor insisted that he did not want the sensitive information to be released in the media.
Mahlamba and Matlaletsa’s lawyer argued that more complex issues had been discussed in public hearing.
Early Friday, EFF leader Julius Malema brought party members together to break police protocol and march across Senekal.
“March and go from one place to another, we will return after two hours,” he said.
Malema continued: “This is your town, they march everywhere.”

His deputy Floyd Shivambu said that the EFF is an organization that opposes racism.
“We were not part of the Codesa nonsense that gave the land to these white minorities. They just took political power but they did not give back our economy,” he said.
