The University of Fort Hare (UFH) confirmed Tuesday that the Eastern Cape Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba’s record for a bachelor’s degree was “spotty.”
This follows a Sunday Times exhibitTheir which revealed how Gomba was allowed to enroll for three academic years despite not meeting the criteria for a graduate degree as he did not possess a junior degree.
The university said it was investigating how this happened, as Gomba was registered from 2013 to 2015.
“His admission to the BAdmin (Honors) program in 2013 was irregular as it was not preceded by the presentation and approval of a portfolio of evidence (POE) as part of the recognition of prior learning (RPL) process,” said the management of the university on Tuesday.
“The university is addressing the violation of its admissions rules. Our rules are clear and any identified violations will be procedurally addressed through formal university processes.
“Ms. S Gomba is not currently a registered student at Fort Hare University. He enrolled in a BAdmin (Honors) program in 2013 and last registered in 2015. “
Gomba’s case came to light recently when a meeting of the faculty board marked his admission to the course and officials at the institution accused the university of trying to cover up the wrongdoing.
