PIETERMARITZBURG – Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula conveyed his condolences to the families of 13 people who died in an accident near Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday.
This as KwaZulu-Natal law enforcement officers are searching for a dump truck driver who allegedly caused the fatal accident and fled the scene.
Thirteen people, including a pregnant woman, were killed when a minibus taxi collided with a tanker in Wartburg, on the outskirts of Pietermaritzburg.

The tanker is believed to have been trying to avoid the dump truck, which apparently failed to stop at a yield sign.
Six people have suffered injuries, two of them are in critical condition.
Mbalula said the gruesome nature of the accident and the loss of life are devastating.
“We send our condolences to those who have lost loved ones in this incident and wish the injured a speedy and full recovery.”
Both the taxi driver and the tanker driver suffered serious injuries.
The accident also had an impact on traffic and took more than five hours to clear the road.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
