The Department of Basic Education has announced that the 2020 matrix class will have to rewrite two exams, after they were leaked hours before students were ready to write them.

The department said that two senior national certificate exam papers will be rewritten nationwide following an investigation into the leaks of math paper 2 and physical science paper 2.

The dates of the rewrites will be as follows:

  • Math test 2: December 15, 2020 – 2:00 p.m.
  • Physical Sciences Document 2: December 17, 2020 – 09h00

“We understand that this will cause disappointment and impact the plans of some of our candidates, but we ask for your understanding,” the department said.

“These are exceptional circumstances and ultimately are in the interest of the fairness of all candidates and the credibility of these exams. There can be no trace of doubt about the integrity of the Senior National Certificate when the results are published. “

The modifications will also affect some principals and staff who must manage arrangements at the test centers, as well as parents and candidates who may have to adjust vacation plans.

“This review is so important that we know they will make the necessary arrangements to accommodate this development,” the department said.

The Department will forward the arrangements to the test centers, and if candidates are unsure, they should check with their closest schools for the rewriting dates.

Candidates can also contact the Safe Schools toll free number on 0800 45 46 47 if they wish to speak to trained professionals about their anxiety or stress.
