The final exam period begins on November 5 and will conclude on December 15.

CAPE TOWN – In just over a month, more than 1 million twelfth graders will sit for their final exams.

This year things will be very different thanks to the pandemic and the closure of COVID-19.

With schools closed for months, students have had to adjust to distance learning.

The final exam period begins on November 5 and ends on December 15.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said the June senior certificate exam had to be postponed amid the shutdown and would be drawn up alongside the final exams in November instead of October as initially planned.

“The combined exam makes it the largest public exam we have ever conducted in this country.”

He said state schools would reopen on January 25, adding that the amended school calendar will be released on Friday.

“We will have to move part of the work to 2021 and we have done everything possible to satisfy everyone’s interests.”

While some students have returned to class, many are still staying home for fear of contracting COVID-19.
