Durban: Having to rewrite their math 2 and physical science 2 exams is not something tuition students are looking forward to, yet for Mpumalanga student Eesa Omar, the rewriting has ruined their wedding and honeymoon plans. Omar, who said that money had already been paid to providers and their honeymoon dates had been chosen, said he thought the rewrite was unfair.

According to TimesLiveOmar, 18, planned to get married on Saturday and be on their honeymoon on Tuesday, the same day that students will rewrite math test 2.

Students will rewrite Physical Science Test 2 on December 17th.

Omar said that he now has to change his wedding plans, which has caused annoyance to his parents.

He told TimesLive that he had been planning his wedding for the past four months and that deposits had been paid for all vendors.

Last week, the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, announced that for the first time in the country’s history, students will have to rewrite both exams. Motshekga said the decision was made as a last resort after both documents were leaked to students a few hours before they were due to write.

Gauteng Superior Court, Pretoria Judge Norman Davis, hearing the request to overturn the rewrite of two exams next week, questioned whether Motshekga ever considered which option would be the least inconvenient for students when ordering the rewrite. The civil rights organization AfriForum is helping four students to submit the urgent application.
