Five Gauteng students have been caught cheating during their final exams.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi revealed on Sunday that students were caught red-handed as they wrote their final exams.

“Two candidates were found with cell phones and three others [were caught] with cradle notes while exams were being conducted in different districts, “Lesufi said.

Lesufi said that four other enrollees, who tested positive for Covid-19, were allowed to write their exams under controlled conditions at Nasrec Field Hospital. All four were discharged on November 25.

However, another student was admitted on Thursday.

“Unfortunately, on November 19, criminals broke into Bophelong High School in Sedibeng and broke into the warehouse, where they stole surplus 11th grade exams from 2019, and [it was] later stolen again on November 20.

“This time, they left with about eight smart boards from 12th grade classrooms, which are used for tests.

“Some 27 candidates, who were scheduled to write Business Studies on November 18, 2020, were affected by the taxi strike. Those who arrived an hour late were able to write and some chose to write in other centers, and were granted such a concession, “he added. Lesufi said.

The qualification sessions will begin on January 4, 2021 and will conclude on January 22 at 30 qualification venues.

The department has designated 12,148 dialing personnel.

“We are closely monitoring the invitations surrounding the circumstances of the leaked math 2 document, which was allegedly accessed by candidates from Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga. The source of the leak is currently being investigated by the Hawks,” Lesufi said.

Admissions 2021

Meanwhile, Lesufi said that the 2021 online admissions placement process for grades 1 and 8 began on October 1 and was scheduled to end on November 30.

“Parents began receiving placement offers on October 1, and unaccepted offers were lost after seven school days of receipt. Based on each school’s ability to accommodate students, placement offers were delivered to applicants who qualified according to the Admission Regulations.

“We can confidently report that a total of 181,119 (81.48%) applicants have been placed to date. Considering this was done under pressure from the Covid-19 pandemic and overwhelming challenges, this is a moment of pride.

“During the placement period, and in accordance with the Admission Regulations, priority is given to applicants who live within the school feeding zone closest to the school.

“Second priority is siblings and applicants who are currently in the seventh grade at a neighboring school. Applicants from parents who work close to the school are placed only if the school has space available after accommodating applicants within the school feeding area, “Lesufi said.

Benoni, Alberton, Johannesburg South, Lenasia, Roodepoort, Bryanston, Midrand, Centurion, and Akasia have been described as high pressure areas.
