Less than three weeks ago, Fritz met with Police Minister Bheki Cele, Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale, National Police Commissioner General Khehla Sitole and Cape Town Mayor’s Security Committee Member JP Smith.

They discussed extortion of businesses, such as bars and restaurants, and it was agreed that a cross-cutting steering committee would be established, Fritz said Tuesday.

It has yet to be summoned, it said in a statement.

“I have been informed that Western Cape Organized Crime detectives with other crime scene experts were at the scene looking for clues where seven people were killed and two injured in a shooting. It is noted that motive [for] this case remains unclear, “he said.

Fritz, however, urged that the national police convene the steering committee and investigate the massacre.

“This is a truly traumatic incident that no family should have to endure. Additionally, I wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured in the shooting.”

A relative of one of the people killed Tuesday told Newzroom Afrika that his aunt had left the house on Monday, along with a friend, who was one of the women killed in the massacre. A third woman is believed to be the owner of the house.

The relative said that she had gone to the place but could not identify her loved one because there were many bodies.

“We still have to go identify the bodies. Only then maybe I’ll be at peace. But it’s going to take time,” he told the news channel.

“I can’t even explain how I feel, but I’m so heartbroken.”

The woman said the family was still in disbelief. He had lived with his relative for years.

“For me, it’s more like she will walk in here at any moment.”

Detectives attached to the provincial Organized Crime Unit were among the experts at the crime scene at the scene in NY78 Monday afternoon after the shooting, in which three women and four men, ages 30 to 40, were killed. .

Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
