JOHANNESBURG – Herman Mashaba says that his new political party is not for easy prey.
The former mayor of Johannesburg launched Action SA over the weekend.
He says he is prioritizing the fight against crime and corruption.
The party is expected to participate in the next elections.

Former ANC MPs Makhosi Khoza and Vytjie Mentor have already joined.
Mashaba said the party hopes that voters who have abstained from previous elections will find their political home with the new party.
He said the ruling party is not as overwhelming as it seems.
“The ANC is a party in decline,” he said.

The ANC won 57.5% of the national vote in the 2019 national elections and fell 4.5 percentage points from 2014.
The ruling party still won more than 30 percentage points than the official opposition, the DA.
Mashaba said her party would prioritize building the economy and creating jobs.
“Our political party is not going to be a party that is an employment agency and uses the sponsorship of our system.

“Sponsorship is totally prohibited,” Mashaba said when asked about youth leadership opportunities within her political party.
Mashaba said he would commission a study on industrialization to draw up an incentive plan for private sector infrastructure and industrial development.
“As a government, our role [is] To create an enabling environment for the private sector to take advantage of what South Africa has to offer so that our young people do not have to work for the government, they must go to work in the private sector. “
