JOHANNESBURG – Pastor Paseka ‘Mboro’ Motsoeneng appeared in Pretoria High Court Tuesday on behalf of former parishioners of the Prophet Shepherd Bushiri who claimed they had lost money to a scam.

Parishioners said they invested their funds in a forex commodity scam in 2017 during a seminar led by the self-proclaimed prophet at his Church of Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG).

Speaking outside of court, Mboro said devotees reached out to him to help them confront Bushiri and get him to return the money they had lost.

“It is not the prophet Mboro against the prophet Bushiri. Bushiri against members of his own church whom they scammed with money. Many people have been calling me [and] asking me to step in, ”Mboro said.

Bushiri also faces charges of fraud, money laundering and violation of the Prevention of Organized Crime Act.

Two women recently came forward and said they were raped by the prophet.
