A 72-hour activation plan was launched after the station commander attached to the Groblersdal Police Station was shot dead in a morning attack in front of his home in Mmaganagobuswa village.
Colonel Lebyane Jeffrey Seroka, 57, was shot and killed in front of his door around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, October 17, reports Review Online.
According to police spokesman Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, preliminary police investigations revealed that the deceased had woken up early this morning to go to a funeral.
The police were alerted and a manhunt for one or more suspects immediately began. The stolen vehicle was found abandoned on the Dennilton-Maklerekeng road.
The motive for this murder is still unknown, Mojapelo added.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant Genl Nneke Ledwaba, has asked the police to hunt down the killers and bring them to the search.
“All the necessary and available resources have been mobilized to implement the 72-hour activation plan for the apprehension of the suspects. Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects should contact Lieutenant Coll Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501 ”, he concluded.
Meanwhile, in a statement Sunday, the The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Limpopo said it is concerned about the recent spike in killings in Limpopo “which now also claimed the life of one of our men in blue.”
“We wish to express our deepest condolences to the family of Colonel Seroka and ask that urgent measures be taken to arrest the perpetrators.”
