Low-cost carrier Mango says consumers shouldn’t panic as flights continue to operate normally amid reports that its entire fleet is scheduled to be grounded starting at midnight.
While SAA Technical (SAAT) wants to withdraw its support for Mango at midnight, allegedly due to non-payment from its parent company, SAA, Mango said it is still in talks with SAAT and remains engaged with in-flight passengers during this long weekend.
“Mango can confirm that key and sensitive discussions are currently taking place between Mango and SAAT to continue operations in these difficult times. Mango is currently operating normally and all customers should always check Mango’s website to see if there are changes in the status of your flight. ” the airline said in a brief statement released Saturday.
SAAT is a fleet maintenance subsidiary of the state company SAA. Mango is also a subsidiary of SAA. SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali could not confirm the reasons why SAAT wants to withdraw its services to Mango.
If Mango’s discussions with SAAT do not yield the desired result, it would mean that the airline would be temporarily grounded, as all aircraft must be inspected by a technical support team before they can be cleared to fly.
