Manchester United have not sparked a one-year extension on Paul Pogba’s contract and remain relaxed about his future.

Pogba, 27, is technically nearing the final year of his deal and United has the option of an additional year to link him to the club until 2022.

United’s decision to delay the extension has allowed Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola to spin the narrative that Pogba has no contract next year amid interest from Real Madrid and Juventus.

Despite Raiola’s incessant noise about its client’s future, MEN understands that United has not exercised the one-year option in Pogba’s contract to quell speculation.

United’s top sources acknowledge that Raiola is “very, very influential,” but consider his outbursts as part of “a game.”

United Sources were pleased with Raiola’s diplomatic tone in an interview with The Daily Telegraph in December they were still thrown when he said the Republic ‘I wouldn’t bring anyone there (United) now’ 11 days later. Raiola’s attempt to Opening a gap between Pogba and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer via a Twitter thread in mid-February also failed.

The first United extended a player’s contract since the ‘plus one’ option was introduced in November 2017, when Ander Herrera was informed by mail seven months before his deal ended.

United attempted to counter the demoralizing loss at Liverpool in December 2018 by confirming that they had activated the one-year option on Anthony Martial’s contract the next day. However, within hours, French agent Philippe Lamboley stressed that he was “pessimistic” about a long-term deal. José Mourinho was fired the next day and Martial agreed to a five-year contract in January.

Raiola reiterated last month that he wants to transfer a ‘great player’ to Real Madrid, although there is uncertainty about the opening date of the summer transfer window amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is a longtime admirer of Pogba, who described Real Madrid as a “dream” last year, and Raiola encouraged Juventus fans to “dream” of Pogba joining the club in the future. Solskjaer was angered by Zidane’s blatant attempt to disturb Pogba last year.

Zidane pressured Real Florentino Pérez president to compete with United for Pogba in the summer of 2016, but Pérez refused and Pogba joined United for a world record of £ 89 million. Pogba’s initial preference was to press for a transfer to Real, but Raiola advised him to return to United.

Pérez and Woodward enjoy a positive relationship and had breakfast in Miami before the teams’ preseason friendly in 2018.
