Manchester United vs RB Leipzig, Champions League preview

[ad_1]

Manchester United are looking to add two wins out of two in Group H as they continue their Champions League campaign with another tough rival at RB Leipzig.

United are getting used to the famous victories in Paris, and last week’s 2-1 win over PSG in France, courtesy of another late winner Marcus Rashford, puts the Red Devils in a good position.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be well aware that Group H is something of a “group of death”, and Julian Nagelsmann’s RB Leipzig will head to Old Trafford on Wednesday night in search of victory.

The young prodigy Nagelsmann guided the German club to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, so United cannot rest on their laurels after an impressive victory, especially after going blank against Chelsea.

Live broadcast: BT Sport subscribers will be able to stream the game online via the BT Sport video player and app.

Team news

Anthony Martial is available once again. The French forward has served two games of a three-game national penalty and is available to start on Wednesday.

Solskjaer says he has “more or less the same roster” available for the one he drew 0-0 with Chelsea on Saturday. Jesse Lingard and Eric Bailly missed that game through injury.

Sergio Romero, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have been excluded from the European squad, so they cannot participate in the group stage. Donny van de Beek will push to start after limited playtime.

Provisional team: De Gea, Henderson, Grant, Wan-Bissaka, Fosu-Mensah, Maguire, Tuanzebe, Lindelof, Shaw, Williams, Telles, Pogba, McTominay, Fernandes, Fred, Matic, Van De Beek, James, Pellistri, Mata, Greenwood, Rashford, Cavani, Ighalo, Martial.

Prediction: Man United 1-1 RB Leipzig

Solskjaer’s team deserved their victory against PSG, although Leipzig will surely look to bring the game to a team that have yet to win at home this season.

United probably would have gladly won four points privately in their first two games, and a draw could be on the cards if neither team decides to open things up too early.

Head-to-head history and results (h2h)

The two teams have yet to meet in an official UEFA competition.
