ESPN claims Manchester United are looking to sign Arsenal’s long-term target Dayot Upamecano this summer.
The Frenchman has become one of the best young defenders in Europe this year with his performances for RB Leipzig.
He helped the Germans reach the semi-final of the Champions League this season, against all odds.
His teams’ advancement to that stage of the competition gave his suitors a chance to see his immense talent and Manchester United want to sign him now.
The Red Devils spent a record fee to get Harry Maguire out of Leicester City last summer, but their partners haven’t convinced them.
The report states that they believe Upamecano will become the perfect defense partner for the England international.
Arsenal have been busy in this transfer window. They targeted the defender last summer but failed to get Leipzig to sell him.
The Frenchman originally only had one season left in his contract with the German side, however he has since managed to get an extension until 2023, but has a release clause that can be activated to sign him.
Arsenal are close to signing Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille and if that deal goes through, they will likely abandon their search for Upamecano for now.
