This week, Manchester United must decide on Jadon Sancho one way or another. They have their first Premier League game against Crystal Palace on Saturday, which will not be an easy test. And with the transfer time running out, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side should start moving toward alternatives if they can’t get Sancho through the door.
Unless you’ve spent the last six weeks living on the moon, you’d know that United wants Sancho.
It was a bad secret. Since landing a place in the Champions League next season, the Red Devils have been focused on landing the 20-year-old.
But, with their new campaign scheduled to start on Saturday, they are still a long way from landing the forward.
United have made progress on agent fees and personal terms, but they need to convince Dortmund to sell. And that, certainly, will not be an easy task.
Dortmund’s own season begins on Tuesday, with Sancho and his teammates currently preparing for their DFB-Pokal showdown with MSV Duisburg. They also have their first Bundesliga showdown with Borussia Monchengladbach on the horizon on Saturday.
And that means United must act, one way or another.

United is not exempt from that. And that means, if they can’t find a breakthrough this week before the Palace game, it’s time for them to move on.
Alternatives have lined up, which is positive news. The club hasn’t always had a Plan B up its sleeve when a Plan A doesn’t go well.
Ivan Perisic is under consideration. José Mourinho wanted to take the Croatian international to Old Trafford in 2017 and 2018, but both occasions were turned down. The forward was not seen as marketable enough.
Since then, he has starred in the semifinals of a World Cup and has won the Champions League, as well as the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich. Hence the change of opinion.
Another on his radar is Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.

Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes and Mourinho have unsuccessfully pursued the Welsh international over the years. However, with Real willing to get rid of him, a move cannot be ruled out.
Ousmane Dembele and Douglas Costa would be wild-card picks given their injury problems, but both are talented. They, as well as Perisic and Bale, are being monitored.
So this week, United should take the biggest turn yet.
Either pay the money or go. Soccer, not the business that surrounds it, is the priority.
And with the Premier League season starting, United cannot afford to waste time and get distracted. Action is required to end the saga once and for all.
