Manchester United are looking to bounce back from the Champions League exit in the middle of the week.
The challenge ahead is a Manchester derby, with United one point ahead of City in the league.
This will be a real test, and while many hope United’s inconsistency will lead to a victory, it is not that simple.
United’s record at home in the Premier League has been very poor this season, although the club won the last home game at West Bromwich Albion, courtesy of a Bruno Fernandes penalty.
Fernandes will play a big role here and much of the pre-game discussion will be between a showdown between him and Kevin de Bruyne.
United won the last meeting between the two sides 2-0 in March in the last match with the fans present at Old Trafford.
Selection decisions
Fred is coming back from midweek suspension and a bye last weekend and is locked out of this game.
Solskjaer will most likely reunite him with Scott McTominay, who scored in the win over City last time out.
Paul Pogba will not have a place in the starting lineup, with United reverting to a 4-2-3-1 with a three-man midfield from Fred, McTominay and Fernandes.
Anthony Martial’s return could be a huge boost. The Frenchman scored in both victories against City last season.
Even though his form hasn’t been great, it’s good to have him back, especially with Edinson Cavani who will likely play a role off the bench at best.
The big decision looming elsewhere seems to be in goal, be it David de Gea or Dean Henderson.
De Gea’s lack of conviction midweek trying to avoid Leipzig’s third goal will have given Solskjaer an excuse to make a change if he wants to.
Although the odds are in De Gea’s favor, we expect Solskjaer to give Henderson another start, as he did against West Ham.
This side would see three changes midweek, with Martial, Fred and Henderson in, and Shaw, De Gea and Matic out.
