MANCHESTER – Wales manager Ryan Giggs was arrested on suspicion of assault, British media reported Monday.
The Sun said police were called to the home of the 46-year-old former Manchester United winger on Sunday night after receiving reports of a riot.
“Police were called at 10:05 pm Sunday to report a disturbance. A woman in her 30s suffered minor injuries but did not require any treatment,” the newspaper said, citing a statement from Greater Manchester police.
“A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault and common section 39 assault.”
He was released on bail pending investigations, the newspaper said.
Greater Manchester Police were not immediately available for comment.
The Football Association of Wales (FAW) took note of the allegations against Giggs.
“The FAW is aware of an alleged incident involving the manager of the men’s national team, Ryan Giggs,” he said in a statement.
“The FAW will not comment further at this time.”
Wales were due to name their team on Tuesday for the November games against the United States, Ireland and Finland, but have postponed it, according to reports.
