Manchester United could soon add Porto defender Alex Telles to their ranks, as reports revealed that his agent is now in talks with the Premier League club.

The Red Devils have been actively chasing a pair of highly skilled defenders this summer, and one of them is Telles del Porto. Rumors have linked Telles to a move to Old Trafford for a while now, along with Jan Oblak from Atlético de Madrid and Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan.

Now, it appears that the Brazilian has become the one most likely to close a deal with Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s team as the Premier League transfer window deadline approaches.

Telles’ agent traveled to England to meet with United officials and is currently in Manchester to discuss his client’s transfer agreement, Portuguese newspaper A Bola reported. The interest is also said to be mutual, with both parties interested in starting a negotiation.

Porto has only one year left on its current contract, which could mean that United is likely to pay less than 30 million euros ($ 35 million) to sign it, the outlet noted.

Telles has been on the radar of various Premier League clubs for quite some time, and Chelsea and Manchester City are said to have been monitoring his situation.

Before his agent flew to Manchester for a possible deal, Telles was willing to listen to offers not only from United but also from Manchester City. The 27-year-old was also noticed by the Blues and was seen as a cheaper alternative to former Leicester star Ben Chilwell.

After playing in Brazil, Telles decided to bring his talents to Europe in 2013 and joined Grêmio in Serie A. He played a year in Italy as a winger before signing for Turkish Galatasaray.

In 2016, Telles moved to Porto, where he became one of the most notable defenders in Europe. Despite being a natural winger, Telles has become famous for his offensive style of play. In fact, he was Porto’s second top scorer in the 2019/20 Primeira Liga campaign.

Meanwhile, United is said to have been dealing with issues related to its transfer funds. Sources told ESPN that Solskjaer believes selling players on the periphery of his squad is a guaranteed way to raise money, but has had trouble getting rid of them.

Among the players United is willing to hear offers for are Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Sergio Romero.
