A 52-year-old man is behind bars after being caught allegedly helping unqualified applicants obtain vehicle financing by creating fraudulent pay stubs.
Zamile Nongogo appeared in East London Magistrates Court on charges of fraud.
“Nongogo was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning, prior to his court appearance, following an investigation by the Hawks’ serious commercial crimes investigation team,” Hawks spokesman Lwando Zenzile said.
Nongogo allegedly helped applicants for vehicle financing by facilitating and creating false pay stubs for them to purchase cars in 2013.
“It is further alleged that these supporting documents were presented at a financial institution in East London. Subsequently, a vehicle worth more than R600,000 was approved and successfully purchased after these documents were verified over the phone with the alleged employers, ”said Zenzile.
Nongogo is in custody and is expected to appear in court again on November 3.
