Cape Town – Police have captured a man wearing overalls who is said to be known for his Parkwood robberies.
The 21-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly robbed a woman and her two children in the area last Thursday.
Grassy Park SAPS spokeswoman Captain Wynita Kleinsmit says: “Our members went to Montague Gift and the victim gave them the description of the suspect who is known to commit robberies in the Parkwood area.
“When they caught him, officers recovered a cell phone, a Nike bag and cash that they took from the victims and, after searching, they found the imitation pistol that was used during the robbery.”
In another incident, police arrested suspects who allegedly robbed a barber shop in Grassy Park.
Kleinsmit says that last Wednesday, police saw a Toyota Avanza that did not have license plates near a barber shop and when they approached the vehicle, the suspects fled.
“The Vigilant Grassy Park Crime Prevention Unit observed the car in the store on Lake Road, the members went to the vehicle and as they were about to leave, the suspects sped away.”
She says the three suspects were caught and the police found them a fake gun.
He adds that the police were informed of this just before his arrival of a robbery at the hairdresser.
“According to reports, four suspicious men entered the store around 8pm on Wednesday.
“There were clients inside, the assistant; one of the suspects drew a firearm and demanded cell phones from the clients, the complainant and the assistant.
“Then they took shoes, hair clippers, a 32-inch HiSense TV, three cell phones and cash.”
Kleinsmit says the suspects, ages 22 and 23, have been charged with commercial theft.
