Manchester United have a “very small” chance of signing RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano before the transfer window closes on 5 October, according to reports. The French international has been linked to a move to Old Trafford in the wake of his excellent performances in the Champions League last season. But with the Red Devils currently targeting Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, any deal seems unlikely.
Manchester United are currently blessed with options as a center-back.
Solskjaer regularly deployed Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire last season, and the pair established an impressive connection at the rear.
In reserve they have Teden Mengi, Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly, as well as Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones.
But despite that, Solskjaer has an interest in Upamecano and would love to bring the RB Leipzig star to the Theater of Dreams in this transfer window.
However, Athletic say United has little chance of securing the player’s signature this summer.

Meanwhile, ESPN insider Steve Nicol recently urged United to seal the signing of Upamecano, who he believes may be the club’s own Virgil van Dijk.
“Why is Manchester United waiting?” I ask. “Is seriously?
“If they’re talking about going after Jadon Sancho for £ 100 million, why don’t they say ‘okay, we’re not sure about this, we’re going to buy a center-back who will absolutely 100 percent be your leader in the back?
“He will probably be one of your best players, eventually he will be your captain and he will be Mr. Man United. This guy is absolutely the next big thing.
“He is 21 years old and has already shown that when it comes to playing as a center back, he is as good as the others.

“Maybe only Van Dijk is better, because this kid can play, he loves challenges, he makes big decisions.
“He’s not the type to go around bullying people, he actually uses his physique when he needs to, but he beats them.
“I really don’t have a lot of bad things to say about this guy, if there are any.
“He showed us in the [Champions League] Quarterfinals against Atlético de Madrid … It was the driving force behind Leipzig not losing that match.
“I wish Liverpool would go looking for him! I don’t know why Man United is around. Just do it “.
