Manchester United kicked off their Premier League campaign with a disastrous 3-1 home loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team was given an extra week off as they recovered from their exploits in the Europa League, which eventually saw them lose in the semi-final to Sevilla.
But they certainly didn’t seem ready when Palace crashed at Old Trafford.
In seven minutes, they were 1-0 down when Andros Townsend converted a low cross from Jeffrey Schlupp.
With players like Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the starting lineup, he would have expected United to react.
But the quartet offered very little.
In fact, Pogba was retired in the 67th minute by new signing Donny van de Beek after a rather miserable performance.
The World Cup winner failed to make an impact on the match and was completely overshadowed by James McCarthy and James McArthur.
And now, days after the game, a 30-second clip of Pogba is going viral.
Titled ‘Paul Pogba summed up in 30 seconds’ certainly doesn’t paint midfield in a good light.
First, Pogba tries to make a short pass to Fernandes which is intercepted by Jordan Ayew. His reaction to giving the ball away is nothing short of embarrassing, as he barely runs backwards.
Remember, United is 1-0 down at this point.
Luckily for Pogba, Fernandes does a brilliant job of getting the ball back for his team.
Harry Maguire throws the ball back into Pogba. This time, he attempts an ambitious pass to the left wing that Townsend cuts easily. His body language, once again, is shocking.
The clip ends with him winning an inning, but Palace regains possession as Pogba walks away.
After watching the clip, United fans were extremely disappointed in the midfielder. Check out the reaction:
Look, we all know that Pogba is an incredible footballer back in the day, but judging from his performance against Palace on Saturday, he had no interest in being there.
The only excuse we can offer is the fact that he contracted coronavirus during the summer and missed part of the preseason.
Even before the Palace game, his coach suggested that he might not be fit to play.
“Paul has had a couple of training sessions, so he has missed a few sessions due to the virus, of course,” Solskjaer admitted.
“But Paul gets into shape fast. Of course, he worked really hard to come back after the lockout last time and played most of the games. Hopefully he’ll be ready by next weekend. I’m not 100% though. safe”. . “
He probably shouldn’t have played, right?
