One person was shot and killed during a high-speed chase with police on the N1 on Monday morning.
According to a preliminary police investigation, Lyttelton SAPS saw a silver Mazda double cab bakkie that was similar to one that had reportedly been used to commit burglaries in Doringkloof.
“Members attempted to stop and search, but the vehicle accelerated; there was a high-speed car chase along the N1 highway. One of the suspects pointed a firearm at the members; call back “said Gauteng SAPS spokesman Capt Kay Makhubela.
The car, with three occupants, was cut up near the Atterbury exit ramp and two of the occupants were arrested while the third died at the scene.
“Inside the suspects’ vehicle, burglary kits and an unlicensed firearm were recovered. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle used by the suspects had been reported stolen,” Makhubela said.
The men are expected to appear in Pretoria Magistrates Court for possession of a stolen vehicle and burglary equipment.
