Man killed after grabbing gun from a policeman at Durban police station

  • He was killed while trying to rob the second officer.
  • The police have opened a file of investigation, attempted murder, robbery and attempted robbery.

A man who stole a police officer’s gun and then tried to steal another at a Durban police station died, police said Tuesday.

The man, who according to the police was in his 40s, allegedly entered the Point police station at 06:15 and requested an affidavit form.

“When they gave him the form, he attacked the police and stole their service pistol. The suspect tried to steal the weapon from another police officer and was fatally injured during the confrontation,” said police spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker.

He said an attempted murder, robbery and attempted robbery case had been opened at Point SAPS.
