A Durban man who allegedly attacked and stole his firearm from a police officer and tried to steal another weapon from his colleague was fatally shot at the Point police station Tuesday morning.
Police spokesman Brig Jay Naicker said: “It is alleged that this morning at 6.15am, a suspect believed to be in his 40s arrived at the Point Police Station and requested an affidavit form.
“When they gave him the form, he attacked the police and stole their service pistol. The suspect tried to steal his firearm from another officer and was fatally wounded during the confrontation.”
An investigation file, attempted murder, robbery and attempted robbery was opened at the station.
The shooting comes as Police Minister Bheki Cele is in the province to pay his respects to Captain Thulani Molefe on Tuesday.
Molefe, who ran Visible Policing at the KwaNdengezi Police Station in KwaZulu-Natal, was shot in his vehicle on December 14, while on his way to work.
