Man caught in possession of Bushiri’s ‘stolen’ vehicle at Beitbridge border – the Citizen

The Hawks Directorate of Priority Criminal Investigations (DPCI) arrested a 35-year-old man at the Beitbridge port of entry for being in possession of an allegedly stolen vehicle.

According to a statement by Hawks spokesman Col. Katlego Mogale, the man was arrested on Thursday, December 17, and will soon appear in Musina Magistrates Court.

“The man was arrested for being in possession of an allegedly stolen vehicle. It is reported that a white van with six occupants, three men and three women, arrived at the port of entry and upon being searched, it was discovered that it belonged to the Church of the Enlightened Christian Encounter (ECG) founded by the fugitive Pastor. Bushiri, ”Mogale explained.

He said the occupiers told officials they were heading to a conference in Malawi.

“The driver submitted an affidavit with the signature of one of the church board members, which authorized the driver to drive the vehicle to Zimbabwe en route to Malawi,” he added.

However, the vehicle is part of the assets attached to a provisional liquidation order against Bushiri and his properties, including assets that belong to his church.

“The vehicle is suspected of being smuggled across the border under the pretext of attending the conference.

“He also suspected that the liquidators were not informed about this activity and the driver was arrested as it is not allowed to take anything belonging to the Bushiri estate of the Republic of South Africa to any other country,” Mogale explained.
