A 29-year-old Bangladeshi man was arrested in Johannesburg on Thursday afternoon in connection with the killings of a Mokopane mother and baby in Limpopo.
According to police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspect, who was described as “close” to the victims, is expected to appear before the Mokerong Magistrates Court on Friday.
According to Ngoepe, the suspect was allegedly involved in the murders of Chantelle Ash, 20, and her eight-month-old baby, Tasneem. Their bodies were found at Maponya Lodge on the outskirts of Mokopane, Limpopo, on January 14. They had been strangled and their hands were tied behind their backs.
According to a statement from Ngoepe, it is alleged that on 12 January, around 7:00 p.m., a man, a woman and a child were dropped off at the door of the shelter by an unknown gray motor vehicle.
“Apparently the trio rented a room for the night without providing their personal information and promised the receptionist that they would leave the next day, Wednesday January 13, at 09:00.
Bodies found by receptionist
“The next day, the receptionist was surprised to see no signs of the visitors and she thought they were leaving the premises. On Thursday, January 14, she decided to open the rented room with the aim of cleaning it. Upon arrival, the receptionist was surprised to discover [the] woman and him [baby] strangled to death with their hands tied behind their back and their bodies in a state of decomposition. There was no presence of the man who arrived at the shelter with the two deceased, “said Ngoepe.

“The motive for this incident is unclear at this stage, but domestic violence cannot be ruled out.”
The gruesome murder has devastated Chantelle’s family in Pretoria, Pretoria Rekord reported.
“[On Sunday], baby Tasneem would have been nine months old. Now we can’t even celebrate that because she no longer exists, her life was too short. I keep wondering, why would someone murder such a small baby, would they have no mercy on the child? ”Chantelle’s mother Annie said in that post.
According to Netwerk24, the bodies of Ash and her baby were brought from Mokopane to Pretoria on Wednesday, where they were buried according to the Muslim faith. Ash converted to Islam in October of last year.
