Ntiyiso Xilumane pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend.

  • A 26-year-old man pleaded guilty to murdering his girlfriend, who was a medical intern, at Mankweng Hospital in Polokwane, Limpopo.
  • The defendant went to the hospital and strangled her after receiving a message from her that shook him.
  • The woman’s father testified that the man would beat his daughter.

Murder defendant Ntiyiso Xilumane detailed shocking scenes in a guilty plea before Limpopo High Court on Monday of how he strangled his girlfriend, who was an intern, following a fierce discussion about their stormy relationship.

In a statement read in court by his defense attorney, Xilumane detailed how he left his village in Giyani on January 17 this year and traveled to Mankweng Hospital on the outskirts of Polokwane to meet his girlfriend, Dr. Shongile Pretty Nkhwashu. .

Xilumane, 26, was also a student at Limpopo University and had a young son with Nkhwashu.

He arrived at the hospital in the late afternoon and she met him at the entrance.

Bathtub

They then went to Nkhwashu’s residence on the hospital premises.

“The deceased had a bath and then we went to the bedroom. Then she told me she was leaving me. There was an argument about her father’s interference in our relationship. He bit my finger,” Xilumane said.

He said he then grabbed her by the neck and threw her on the bed.

After a while, he stopped moving.

“I used a stethoscope, which the deceased at some point showed me how it works, and I discovered that she has stopped breathing,” he said.

He closed the door and left the premises and slept outside in the Polokwane business district before approaching the police station.

The lead prosecutor, attorney Eric Mabapa, told Presiding Judge Ephraim Makgoba that the state intended to show that the murder was premeditated.

He then called the father of the late Kenneth Nkhwashu to the stand.

Assault

The father testified about how Xilumane used to assault his daughter.

At some point, the daughter sent him a photo of her with a puffy face.

He also spoke of various insulting and threatening messages apparently sent by Xilumane.

In addition, he said, he received semi-nude photographs of his daughter and Xilumane in intimate positions.

The father said that the problems between Xilumane and his daughter started right after the birth of their son, because of the child’s last name.

But the defense attorney, attorney SM Mawasha, in his cross-examination, indicated that Xilumane’s insulting and threatening messages were directed at the father and not at the deceased.

The father replied: “If the threats were directed only at me, why was my daughter the one who was killed?”

The state claims that the assassination was planned because Xilumane was being rejected for his improper behavior.

The trial continues on Tuesday.
